Private Pay Busing Registration

Rochester Public Schools will hold a registration for individuals interested in paying for 2017-18 school bus service. This service is offered for families who do not qualify for transportation because they live inside the non-busing boundary for the school attending. Non-busing boundaries are 1.25 miles for elementary students, 1.5 miles for middle school students and 2 miles for high school students.

A Vacant Seat Purchase Program is available on a first-come, first-served basis to families that do not meet the transportation boundary requirements. Private pay busing will be provided based on the following criteria: students must live in the attendance area of the school, they must use existing bus stops, and there must be space available on the bus.

Registration will be held the first full week of August. If paying with check or cash you will need to go to:

Transportation Services
Edison Building, Room 122
615 7th ST SW.

If paying with a credit card you can call the Transportation Department at 328-4260 or go to 615 7th St SW between 7:30am-4:00pm.

If you are eligible for free or reduced lunch, go to 615 7th St SW between 7:45 am-4:00pm and bring proof of qualification. Payment in full must be made at this time in order to receive routing. The cost is two dollars per day or one dollar one-way per student. This amount will be charged to reserve the bus seat, even if the student will not use the bus every day.

State statute allows school districts to charge for transportation for non-qualifying students but also states that we cannot discriminate based on ability to pay.  If students qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch, they still may qualify for busing if the criteria regarding bus stops and space apply.
