Franklin/Montessori at Franklin is a unique educational setting that offers both a K-5 Neighborhood Program and a K-5, District-wide, Public Montessori Choice Program.

Montessori at Franklin offers three levels of classes: Kindergarten, Elementary I (i.e., grade 1, 2, and 3 students) and Elementary II (i.e., grade 4 and 5 students). These multi-age groups provide children with opportunities to develop broad social, academic, and leadership skills using the Montessori curriculum. Students manipulate specialized teaching materials in a nurturing community environment that promotes independence, hands-on exploration, and learning through purposeful work. The curriculum focuses on the inter-relatedness of all things past, present, and future.

Friedell provides students a smaller middle school environment with all the advantages of a larger middle school. Friedell is a choice middle school with a District-wide attendance area and transportation provided; parents/guardians must apply to have their middle-level students attend Friedell. An open house for 5th-grade students and parents who are considering attending Friedell is held each November. Opening its doors for the first time in September, 2009, Gibbs is the newest elementary school in Rochester. One of only four schools in the State of Minnesota to become LEED (Leader in Energy and Environmental Design) certified the building design provides for high level learning for all of our students. With a population of approximately 775 students, each classroom is equipped with a SMART board and other technology to promote high level learning opportunities for all students. In addition to using the District Reading and Math curriculum, Gibbs also incorporates Core Knowledge History and Geography into its rigorous learning environment. Additional services include ESOL, Special Education, Gifted and Talented Education, and Reading support.
