Rochester Public Schools Closed
Rochester Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, February 9, 2010, due to weather conditions.
School Age Child Care (SACC) is OPEN at Northrop from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
All day and evening Community Education classes are cancelled.
All night school classes are cancelled. Alternative Learning Center (ALC) Night School at Golden Hill is cancelled.
The following schools’ conferences have been canceled for tonight and will be rescheduled for another date:
Gage Elementary-rescheduled for Thursday, February 11
Bishop Elementary-rescheduled for Tuesday, February 16
Jefferson Elementary-rescheduled for Tuesday, February 23
Elton Hills Elementary- rescheduled by classroom teachers for another date
Sunset Terrace Elementary
Ben Franklin/Montessori at Franklin Elementary
Bamber Valley Elementary-rescheduled for Tuesday, February 16 (same time), PTA meeting canceled

Highly Gifted Program
Update for 09-10 Highly Gifted Program Applicants
Highly Gifted Program at Friedell Middle School Plans are underway for the fourth year of the Highly Gifted program at Friedell Middle School. For 2010-2011, classes will be available at all grade levels.
The Highly Program at Friedell is designed to meet the unique educational, social, and emotional needs of highly gifted students, while still being a part of a regular middle school experience. The program offers an advanced problem-based curriculum and differentiated instruction to meet the sophisticated learning needs of highly gifted children.
Students and families considering this option must meet ONE of the following criteria: 1. OLSAT test composite score of 130 or higher, or 2. CogAT test score of 130 or higher on each subtest OR a composite score of 135 or higher, or 3. Stanford test total in both reading and math of 98 NPR or higher PLUS- either an OLSAT composite score of 125 or higher OR CogAT score of 125 or higher on both reading and math sections, or 4. A portfolio of exemplary work may be submitted, if students do not qualify with a test score. Requests for portfolio facilitation begin with Cindy Martenson, Secondary Gifted Services Coordinator, and are overseen by the student's current classroom teacher.
